Microsoft is Ending Support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2
Microsoft has announced it will end support for SQL Server 2008 and 2008 R2 on July 9, 2019. This will end regular security updates and patches, which means you will be running hardware at your own risk, increasing exposure to the latest data breach risks.
Even if your organization is not required to meet regulatory or compliance requirements, it does need the functionality, reliability, and security that only a supported environment can provide. Why take the risk?
We are not alone in the recommendation to migrating your environment to SQL Server 2012, 2016 or 2017, depending on your current SQL software environment.
